Witness produces testimony and exhibits; Canon—evidence codes, appellate gloss, treatises—is read at sidebar; the Replicator propagates charges and filings; the Renormaliser prices drift through appeals, defence, and oversight. The verdict stabilises as a Symbolic Self in inert matter—docket, NCIC, background vendors—not in anyone's skull. What is maintained is answerability projected across substrates that decay without external metabolic forcing. Payment is person-hours, institutional maintenance, and building and data-centre energy. Stop records, staffing, or enforcement and the verdict loses binding force.
